Dive into the ocean of your imagination! These original family tunes celebrate children’s connection to the oceans and the little, the wild, and the gentle giant creatures that call it home. There are songs of ferries and tugboats, glow-in-the-dark sea life, and marvelous escaping octopus among many more.
The album was recorded with multi-instrumentalist and producer Tom Fox at The Sound Room whose intricate guitar, mandolin, and thoughtful arrangements uplift the tunes into an immersive audio experience. ‘We Are All Waves’ features the trumpet playing of Nick Connor. All songs were written and composed by Claudia Robin Gunn. Album art was illustrated by Elise De Silva and designed by Claudia Robin Gunn.
This double album project including the songs, art, and songbook was funded by an arts grant from Creative New Zealand, and is the first half of a two-part project - part two is Sing for the Earth - Little Wild Animals.
An integral part of this vision was creating some resources that sit alongside the music to help kids engage with the lyrics and the ideas behind these songs. Watercolour illustrations throughout are by Elise De Silva and all the science notes and suggested activities in the songbook are by scientist and author Melissa R. Gunn.
